Juventus have now joined AC Milan in a bid to bring back Mario Balotelli to Italy, while Everton completed the signing of midfielder Leroy Fer from FC Twente.
Milan were thought to be close to agreeing a move for Balotelli, with the Italian set to leave Manchester City after a tumultuous couple of years.
However, now the Italian champions have come into the reckoning, after registering their interested in the talented but temperamental forward.
Milan are reportedly ready to pay City around £20 million ($36 million) for the 22-year-old, while City want £28 million ($44 million). A deal involving Kevin-Prince Boateng going the other way to the Etihad has also been reportedly mooted.
It is not entirely clear how much Juventus are willing to part with for Balotelli, who cost City £24 million ($38 million) from Inter Milan in the summer of 2010.
While City are still not entirely convinced about selling their player, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Roberto Mancini to keep the forward in check, who has caused disruptions, both on and off the pitch in his two-and-a-half year career with the English Premier League champions.
The training ground bust-up earlier this month has further convinced the City hierarchy that Balotelli's days in Manchester are numbered.
The Italian has not shown any form on the pitch this season, scoring just three goals all year, and only one in the English Premier League.
Meanwhile, Everton have agreed a move for FC Twente midfielder Fer for a fee of around £8.6 million ($13.5 million).
Everton announced they had reached an agreement for the 23-year-old, and the Dutch international expressed his happiness at securing a move to Goodison Park.
"It's a very nice step to move to the Premier League. For me, my qualities can be fully expressed there," he told RTV Rijnmond.
"Everton have always been a good club to join. It's nice that they have come in for me. It is earlier than I expected, but I am definitely happy to join them.
"I have only played for one-and-a-half years at Twente so the fact that Everton have come in for me so quickly shows the confidence they have in me. That feels good.
"Everton always play for European places. It is a step which can aid my development."
