The TV show "Entourage" got the green light from Warner Bros. after years of speculation. The HBO adaptation could feature many athletes who previously were on the series, including Tom Brady, Alex Rodriguez, Michael Strahan and Mark Cuban.
The creators of the show had been planning to make a film for many years, but the project appeared to be stalled once the show went off the air. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has given the concept a green light with "Entourage" creator Doug Ellin handling the script for the feature version. The original show was executive produced by Mark Wahlberg and was partially based on his early years in Hollywood.
The shows stars Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara and Jeremy Piven, are all expected to return and likely will pick up soon after the show left off. The concept of the show had Adrian Grenier playing movie star Vincent Chase and starred Kevin Connolly as his best friend Eric, Kevin Dillon as his brother Johnny Drama, Jerry Ferrara as his gopher Turtle and Jeremy Piven as his agent Ari Gold.
The series ended with Vince, Sophia, Drama, Turtle, Ari and his wife flying to Paris for the wedding of the main character, while Eric and his fiancée were left to their own devices after getting hitched themselves. The final scene took place on the Amalfi Coast with Ari and his family and Gold receiving a phone call to possibly take the head CEO job at Time Warner.
The show ended in September 2011 and immediately after there was talk of a film version. While no specific details have been released, deadline reports that the script picks up six months after the events in the show's finale and Mark Wahlberg hinted that it may take place abroad rather than in California.
In June, Wahlberg said: "I think a 90-minute movie of sheer craziness - the guys getting back to just being about the guys, you know? Lose the ladies. Go crazy. Give people what they want."
No filming date has been set, but there is a chance the show will feature some athletes and other stars. Throughout the series, many professional athletes appeared on the show and were involved in storylines, including when Turtle played golf with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Other athletes and sports figures that have appeared on the show include Alex Rodriguez, Michael Strahan, Mark Cuban, Chuck Liddell, Bruce Buffer, Joel Silver, Marisa Miller, Phil Mickelson, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Brian Urlacher and many more.
