Tim Tebow is the subject of trade rumors once again as the New York Jets are trying to figure out how to get rid of the quarterback from their roster.
Tebow was a disaster with the Jets and now the team needs to find a partner for him somewhere in the NFL. There are new reports that the team does not want to release him in March when the league year begins and that they would rather trade him and get something of value back for him. The problem for the Jets is that Tebow is a cold commodity and many teams in the NFL are unwilling to give up a high draft pick for a quarterback like him.
Here's a look at how Tebow would fit into every NFL roster in the league:
49ers: Colin Kaepernick started the season coming in for Alex Smith, so why can't Tebow do the same for Kaepernick? Jim Harbaugh would love his toughness.
Bears: This one is already real because new head coach Marc Trestman worked with Tebow before he was drafted. Jay Cutler could use a push from behind to play better.
Bengals: Andy Dalton is the "man" in Cinincatti, but Tebow could be a great decoy much like how coordinator Jay Gruden used wideout Mohamed Sanu from Rutgers.
Bills: Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't getting it done. New coach Doug Marrone could shake things up big time with Tebow.
Broncos: This already happened once....doubt it will happen again now that Hall of Famer Peyton Manning is around. But hey, Denver round two anyone?
Browns: Cleevland needs a quarterback. Brandon Weeden is the senior citizen of rookies and the Browns could use some excitement with a new head coach.
Buccaneers: Josh Freeman didn't get it done this year and Florida is Tebow's home state.
Cardinals: Awful at quarterback this season with John Skelton, Kevin Kolb and Ryan Lindley. Tebow would be an upgrade.
Chargers: New coach, Philip Rivers is a turnover machine. A good backup role could be a fit for Tebow.
Chiefs: Another team with a new coach. Andy Reid could bring Tebow in like he did with Michael Vick and make a quarterback out of him.
Colts: Andrew Luck is the answer, but the team messed up in the past by not getting a good backup for Peyton.
Cowboys: Tony Romo hasn't gotten it done in the playoffs. Tebow won his first-ever playoff game.
Dolphins: Ryan Tannehill is the starter, but Tebow could bring the Wildcat back to South Beach.
Eagles: An actual option with Chip Kelly as the new coach.
Falcons: Matt Ryan won a playoff game, but he couldn't defeat the 49ers. No solid backup here, maybe a good fit.
Giants: Eli Manning has the record for most consecutive starts among active QBs, but everyone needs a backup.
Jaguars: The team has said no, but the fans are clamoring for a yes.
Jets: Everyone knows how this went.
Lions: Matthew Stafford has an elite arm but throws too many picks.
Packers: Aaron Rodgers is the only QB here, but they just lost backup Matt Flynn to Seahawks.
Panthers: Cam Newton is the starter, but he runs, he could get hurt.
Patriots: The team has a backup in Ryan Mallet, but Brady retires eventually.
Raiders: A Real place. Carson Palmer is not long term option, neither is Terrell Pryor.
Rams: Sam Bradford was number one pick, but injury prone.
Ravens: Flacco is a new champion, but he needs a real backup.
Redskins: As evidenced by RGIII, all teams need a second option. Ok, they have Cousins, but a third option is good too.
Saints: Drew Brees throws for a lot of yards, Tebow could be a change of pace type.
Seahawks: Russell Wilson is the man with the plan here. Tebow could fit in with eccentric Pete Carroll.
Steelers: Big Ben is Pittsburgh, but as seen by this season, a better backup is needed.
Texans: Matt Schaub is solid but not sexy. Tebow would bring a new element in.
Titans: Jake Locker appears not to be the future.
Vikings: Christian Ponder looked good in 2012 until he didn't.
The Tim Tebow trade rumors are heating up again and there is a chance that he could be traded very soon. The team is not expected to release him, but there has been talk that the team is still hoping to trade him.
According Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets are trying to trade Tebow before the start of the new league year in March.
One NFL general manager told Schefter, "I think his career is over without playing another position."
There is still no word on if anyone is interested, with the Jaguars already taking themselves out of the running.
The New York Jets aimed to get headlines during the 2012 season and in that regard, the year was a success. Football-wise though? There was a lot left to be desired.
One of the largest problems with the Jets this season was the trade for Tim Tebow. The organization brought him over last March as a weapon on offense, but instead all the backup quarterback did was add drama to the locker room.
According to an ESPNNewYork.com report, Rich Cimini writes that the deal was not the "brainchild" of Johnson, although he eventually warmed to the idea of bringing Tebow to the team. Former Broncos GM Ted Sundquist, who interviewed for the Jets' open general manager position, said that he was told that Tebow was "forced" on Johnson and team president Neil Glat, who also participated in the interview.
The Daily News added to the report, saying that the owner and the others interviewing candidates reportedly were looking for an "exit strategy" for the Tebow situation. The report also said that another candidate who was interviewed had no mention of Tebow in his session.
Tebow was one of the most talked about players in the NFL after leading the Denver Broncos to an improbable overtime win against the Steelers in last year's playoffs, but he has been marginalized by the Jets. This season he played in only 77 offensive played and gained 102 rushing yards on 32 carries. He made only eight pass attempts and completed six of them for 39 yards.
Head coach Rex Ryan and coordinator Tony Sparano said Tebow would help add another level to the offense, but instead starter Mark Sanchez struggled as the two tried to bring Tebow in. Sanchez threw 18 interceptions and the Jets were one of the worst offensive teams in the NFL, ranked 30th in passing with 180 yards per game and scoring just 17 points per game, ranked 28th in the league.
