The heart-breaking, 60-second long Budweiser commercial earned the top spot in Ad Meter's list of the best Super Bowl ads of the year. Anheuser-Busch got back on top with the legendary Clydesdale horses that have become a long tradition of Super Bowl commericals.
The ad titled "Brotherhood" shows the bond between the horse and its trainer. The ad was soundtracked to classic Fleetwood and tells the story of a trainer that raises the horse from birth and then watches as the horse becomes a legendary Clydesdale for the beer company. The two are reunited at a big-city parade in a moment that could have easily brought a tear to every viewer of last night's game. The ad earned a quality score of 7.76 with Ad Meter.
Coming in second was the ad for Procter & Gamble's Tide laundry detergent which earned praise with its gentle humor. The ad showed an image of football legend Joe Montana mysteriously appearing on a fan's jersey as a salsa stain. The miracle stain caused media uproar and becomes an idol of worship before being washed away by the fan's wife-a Baltimore Ravens' fan. P&G had the opportunity to release the commercial prior to the game for fans to see, but decided to keep it a secret, which paid off in the end.
Chryslers' two-minute ad for Ram pickup trucks placed third on the Ad Meter. The ad focused on the American Farmer which was narrated by radio broadcaster Paul Harvey. Doritos came in fourth with their father-daughter themed ad. The company once again allowed the viewer to vote for which commercials would air during the game. GoDaddy's 30-second ad featuring a make out session between Bar Refaeli rated the worst.
The Super Bowl featured around 55 commercials that cost advertisers anywhere from $3.8 million to $4 million per 30-second slot. More than 7,000 panelists voted on the Ad Meter panel this year, which anyone can register for.
