Phil Mickelson had a little trouble on the 18th hole at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California on Saturday, falling down while searching for his ball near the rocks on a slope near the green.
Mickelson, who won the Phoenix Open last week, had what Deadspin called the "unquestionable sports highlight of this or any year." After taking a triple bogey on the hole, Mickelson heads into the final round at one under par after shooting one over in the third round.
Brandt Snedeker and Jason Hahn are tied for the lead at 12-under par and will be teeing off in the final pairing, while Phil Mickelson will go at 11:25.
Snedeker has been close to lead in each of the past two tournaments, including at Torrey Pines, where he was behind Tiger Woods, and at the Phoenix Open, where he was behind Mickelson. This time he is in the lead after hitting four straight birdies over the third round.
"You never know what tomorrow holds, but I feel like I'm in great position, and I'm going to be surely more prepared, no matter who is around me in the last group," said Snedeker, who posted his ninth straight round in the 60s. "I'm probably going to have the most experience of anybody in those last couple groups of winning a golf tournament."
Hahn was just as good towards the end, putting birdies in on his last three holes, leaving the two a shot ahead of Chris Kirk. Mickelson was all the news after the round due to his fall and as the defending champion he was fortunate to not have been forced to pull out of the tournament.
"I got lucky," Mickelson said. "I didn't get hurt."
Mickelson sits 11-shots behind the lead and is in a vastly different spot than last weekend when he won the Phoenix Open after opening with a historic round. Mickelson faced off against Snedeker and knows what he can do on the course.
"He's been playing great golf these last couple of weeks ... and it looks like this could be his week," Mickelson said. "But final round at Pebble Beach, a lot of things happen and he has to play one more good round. I know he has it in him, but he still has to go do it."
Mickelson won the tournament last year after coming from six shots behind, but this year the deficit might be too big.
