NFL Rumors: Ahmad Bradshaw Interested In Jets, Wants To Play In New York

It has been one week since running back Ahmad Bradshaw was cut by the New York Giants, in a move that surprised everyone but Bradshaw himself. Now the running back says he is interested in returning to play football in New York, just not for the Giants. Bradshaw told "NFL AM" he would interested in playing for the Jets next season.

"The New York Jets are a team I'm excited to hear about, just to stay home, not make a big move from New York. It's just right across the street from where I am now," Bradshaw said.

A move to the Jets does actually make sense. Bradshaw rushed for 1,014 yards in 14 games last season, making him more productive than current Jets running back Shonn Greene who is coming off back-to-back seasons of 1,000-yard rushing seasons and is scheduled to be a free agent. He rushed for 1,063 yards in 16 games last season. The Jets might not have the money to pay Greene and could sign Bradshaw to a low-risk contract with playing-incentives to protect them from the injury-prone player.

The Giants originally cut Bradshaw because the salary he was earning no longer matched the production value. Bradshaw has been plagued with injury. He is coming off foot surgery and is currently in a walking boot while he recovers. This does not make his value with other teams very high. There is a chance he could not sign with another team until he is fully healed around the time training camps are scheduled to open.

When the Giants cut Bradshaw last week, they made it clear to him that they could end up re-signing him at a later date and for a less salary. The Giants intended on getting younger and they have David Wilson and Andre Brown to fill the Bradshaw void. However, he would fit nicely as a third-down back from the team.

"In playing with the Giants, they had mentioned that there was a chance for me to come back. I'm always up for that. Whatever, whoever needs me, whoever can use me. Whoever I feel that I can get a better chance of playing and helping a team," Bradshaw said.

Bradshaw did not burn any bridges when being let go by the Giants so the door could possibly be open for him returning. He is a risky player to sign due to his history, but the Jets have been known to take a few risks in their days.
