Percy Harvin has been the subject of trade talks in recent weeks after getting into a disagreement earlier in the year with the coaching staff, but if it were up to MVP running back Adrian Peterson, Harvin would be going nowhere.
According to ESPN.com, Peterson made some comments in an interview with KFAN-FM in Minneapolis after being asked about the receiver and whether the Vikings would be trading him or not this offseason.
"To be honest with you, I don't know if we will or not. But me, individually, and giving you my opinion, I wouldn't trade him for nothing," Peterson said in the interview.
Harvin played only part of the season after suffering an ankle injury against Seattle in early November. He had some issues with the coaching staff about the injury and he was later placed on injured reserve ending his season a month after the injury.
"To do the the things that he's able to do, I don't think there will be a player able to do it better than him. Ever," Peterson said.
Early in the year Harvin looked like a possible MVP candidate after the Vikings got off to a good start, but after he was injured running back Adrian Peterson took over and won the MVP awards himself after gaining 2,097 rushing yards on the ground.
Harvin was leading the league in totally yards before he was hurt, putting together some nice returns along with 62 receptions last season for 677 yards and three touchdowns. In his final game before getting injured in Week 9 he had two receptions for 10 yards in a 20-13 loss to Seattle.
Harvin has had issues with the Vikings dating back to last summer when he requested a trade and showed up ion training camp afterwards. He had a reported argument with head coach Leslie Frazier about his injury, but the staff downplayed the situation.
Peterson said that Harvin and the Vikings should be able to figure out their differences.
"I haven't really had the opportunity to talk to him much. But I always look at what you can get from a person, and I know it comes with, 'OK, you gotta deal with this, or deal with that,' but I always feel like that person can overcome whatever it is that they might be struggling with," he said.
Harvin is a small guy at 5-foot-1 and 184-pounds, but he still led the Vikings in receptions and receiving yards despite being in just nine games. The 24-year-old is an electric kick returner and he has gained 7,168 all-purpose yards in his four-season career with 29 touchdowns, including 20 receiving, five return, four rushing. Harvin has 280 receptions in 54 career games played.
Vikings general manager Rick Spielman has been coy about Harvin, saying on the radio earlier last week that he wasn't sure yet how things would go for the receiver,.
"I'm not going to say what's going to happen this offseason," Spielman said, "because he is going in to the last year of his contract. But right now, where we're at, Percy Harvin is a member of this football team and he is a very good football player. We don't like to get rid of good football players."
The Dolphins could be a good fit since the team recently dealt number one wide receiver Brandon Marshall to the Bears and the Patriots are also a good fit if they decide to let Wes Welker leave, as he is a free agent. Harvin is one of the most explosive players in football and has the potential to score a touchdown on every play.
