MLB clubhouses have menus decked with delicious foods, but C.C. Sabathia's biggest weakness used to be a box of Cap'n Crunch. After dropping this addiction over the past offseason, Sabathia reported to New York Yankees Spring Training 10 pounds lighter.
Every time you look at one of these cereal commercials, there's a small bowl and they say "part of this complete breakfast."
In this video, the Captain is holding the complete breakfast with some toast, a pineapple as part of the Hawaiian theme and a coconut. However, Sabathia's idea of a complete breakfast had no balance. It was all about consuming the entire box of Cap'n Crunch. That changed this offseason once again.
"No Cap'n Crunch," Sabathia told The NY Daily News. "Same thing I did last offseason, just worked out and watched the diet. I worked out every day, just made sure I watched what I ate."
Sabathia got rid of the extra sugar and fat he'd consume from all those bowls of cereal. The Yankees ace dropped 10 pounds and is now weighing 290 pounds. Not bad for the 6' 7" left-hander who's been dominating the league in the past couple of years.
The weight should help him stay healthy and have the pitcher back 100 percent by the time the season rolls along. There is no doubt that the weight will help him with his knees.
Last season, Sabathia also lost weight. The trick is keeping it off during the regular season. He dropped 25 points in 2011 and now finds himself in healthier conditions.
Including 2013, Sabathia has five years remaining in his eight-year deal signed back in 2009. Sabathia won a ring in his first year with the Yankees and along with keeping off the weight, is looking forward to adding another ring to his collection.
2013 will be a little tougher than the left-hander, who won 15 games in 2012, might think. Manager Joe Girardi is a huge fan of Cap'n Crunch. So Sabathia might want to as his manager to put the boxes away when they have team meetings.
This is the second time this year where a box of cereal takes headlines of sports. Not too long ago, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett had some beef over the mentioning of Honey Nut Cheerios.
There will be no wars over Cap'n Crunch though.
