The San Antonio Spurs have been one of the best overall teams in the NBA this season, but they also have been one of the best road teams and they will put that to the test on Friday night as they take on the Golden State Warriors in California. The Warriors will be debuting their brand new short-sleeved home jerseys as well.
The Spurs have been playing excellent basketball lately, winning 16 of the past 17 games, including nine of the last 10 on the road. San Antonio hit a rough patch away from home from Dec. 12 to Jan. 12, but have been much better lately, including after a 116-90 win against Los Angeles on Thursday.
The Clippers and Spurs are two of the top three teams in the conference, but San Antonio made Los Angeles look like a rec league team in the blowout and the team shot nearly 60 percent from the field in the game.
"It's only one game. It doesn't mean anything," guard Tony Parker said to the Associated Press. "You have to look at the big picture. We want to win a championship."
Parker has been playing MVP-level basketball lately and he had 31 points and seven assists with zero turnovers to lead the Spurs to a fifth straight win. Over the past six games, Parker has averaged nearly 30 points. Parker was just as good in January against the Warriors, scoring 25 points and eight assists in a 95-88 win, which extended the Spurs' home winning streak against Golden State to 28 games.
The Spurs are 44-12 on the season and have a league-nest road mark at 22-10. Golden State has had no luck against San Antonio, dropping 16 straight games dating back to 2008.
The Warriors enter the game after a 108-98 win against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday and are 31-23 on the season. Stephen Curry had a double-double of 20 points and 11 assists, while David Lee added 19 points and 11 rebounds.
"That's too long to go in between wins," Curry said. "Hopefully, that's the last little slide we go on this year."
Neither team made any big moves at the trading deadline, although the Warriors forward Jeremy Tyler to Atlanta and guard Charles Jenkins to Philadelphia with cash considerations to get themselves in a better cap situation. They received a protected second round pick from Philadelphia in return.
