This is the final meeting between the New Jersey Devils and the Washington Capitals. The Devils won both previous matches but had to take the games to overtime in order to do so. Washington has had a season of one disappointing loss after another and will be looking for a little revenge against the Devils.
At 5-10-1, Washington is one of the league's worst. However, they are thriving on power play's, ranking third in the NHL in conversion percentage at 26.8 percent. Despite the ability to convert on the power play, the Capitals have struggled to get anything out of this season. Alex Ovechkin has gone three straight games without a point for the team. The two-time MVP averaged more than a point per game in first six seasons NHL seasons. His minus-8 rating this season is the worst on the Capitals. First-year Capitals coach Adam Oates says he is seeing progress with the team as he tries to implement his coaching system, however Washington still has a long way to go.
The Devils on the other hand are one of the NHL's best teams this season. At 10-3-4, they are in prime position to make a good run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Goalie Martin Brodeur is responsible for a lot of the team's success. In his last seven starts, he is 5-1-1 with a 1.84 goals-against average. Patrik Elias recorded his sixth multi-point game on Thursday and currently ranks in the top 10 in scoring with 21 points total.
The Devils will the without Ryan Carter who suffered a head injury and did not make the trip with the team. If there is hope for Washington, it is that they will get defenseman Mike Green back in the lineup after missing the last two games with a lower-body injury. Washington has won three straight games with Green in the lineup.
