Manchester United are bracing themselves for a summer bid from Real Madrid for Javier Hernandez, while Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in bringing Ashley Williams from Swansea at the end of the season.
Hernandez has been one of the best buys by Ferguson in recent times, immediately adapting to life in the English Premier League, and showing that brilliant quality to be at the right place at the right time to slam home a goal.
However, despite all those qualities, Hernandez remains third choice at United if not fourth choice, with Welbeck also showing some good form off late and his versatility working in his favor, and could be set for a move away in the summer.
Real Madrid, who play Manchester United in a high-profile Champions League last 16 second leg at Old Trafford next week, are monitoring the situation, with the Spanish giants ready to put in a big-money bid for the Mexican international, according to the Daily Mirror.
Real are also in the market for Radamel Falcao, and it is more likely that they will move for Hernandez, who will definitely score goals in La Liga, if they fail in a bid to bring in the Atletico Madrid striker, who is also interesting Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain.
While Ferguson is unlikely to let Hernandez leave, his hand might be forced if the Mexican has his head turned by an offer from Real.
Meanwhile, United are looking at the possibility of making a move for Swansea defender Williams.
United are looking for a central defender in the summer, with the likes of Angelo Ogbonna, Ezequiel Garay and Martin Caceres linked with a move, and Williams has now joined that list, according to the Sunday People.
It will be interesting if Ferguson were to make a move for the center-back, who has been outstanding for Swansea over the past 18 months, and will be celebrating long and hard after their victory over Bradfrod in the Capital One Cup final, after the United manager hit out at Williams in an on-field incident involving Robin Van Persie in December.
Williams struck Van Persie on the back of his head with the ball, while the Dutchman was lying on the floor following a foul. That led to an altercation between the two players, with Ferguson saying "He could have really killed the lad," after the game.
Ferguson, though, is keen to bring in an experienced defender, with Rio Ferdinand's future undecided and Nemanja Vidic's injury problems constantly plaguing him.
Williams, who has also been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, is on contract until 2015, and Swansea are likely to demand a transfer fee in the region of £10 million ($15 million) for the 28-year-old.
