Japan will officially begin their defense of their World Baseball Classic dominance as they face Brazil, a country more popular for soccer than baseball. However, don't sleep on the talent on their roster as Brazil was one of four teams to surface from the qualifiers.
It couldn't have come at a more appropriate time as Brazil had its first Brazilian player Yan Gomez in baseball and he entered with a bang. He made history by just playing a game, but he went further by homering also making him the first Brazilian to hit a home run in a ball game.
They will have to compete with Japan's team that will feature some new faces. Ichiro Suzuki will not play for the first time and Yu Darvish is no longer in the roster either. These young Japanese stars will have to rise to the occasion and play hard because they have the target on their back.
Many expected teams like the USA, Dominican Republic or Venezuela to dominate the tournament, but instead, it's been the fundamentally sound Japanese squad that has won the tournament twice.
