NFL Free Agent Rumors: Steve Breaston To Consider Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez Germany Knee Treatment, Receiver To Sign With Pittsburgh Steelers?

Steve Breaston was one of the prize free agent signings by the Kansas City Chiefs under coach Todd Haley two years ago, but after signing a five-year deal with the team, the former Michigan wide receiver is looking for a new home and a new health treatment for his knee that was used by both Alex Rodriguez and Kobe Bryant.

According to ESPN.com, Breaston, who was released by the Chiefs earlier this offseason, is looking into going through a Regenokine treatment in Germany to help repair knee inflammation as well as early arthritic symptoms. Sources spoke to ESPN and said that Breaston is considering the procedure, which has been performed on Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez that has helped them salvage their careers.

The report describes the special procedure, in which a small cup of blood is taken out of the patient and then incubated at a higher temperature and then spun in a centrifuge to make serum that's injected to combat inflammation, which can then resolve the player's irritation.

Breaston dealt with injuries while playing in just 10 games last season and although he feels he can perform fine, his advisors have been convincing him to look into the procedure. ESPN reports that one of his agents, Eric Metz, has been helping Breaston with the process and that the procedure also helped Grant Hill extend his career.

As a free agent, Breaston is looking for a new home after being released by the Chiefs and new head coach Andy Reid. Breaston originally signed a five-year deal with the Chiefs with coach Todd Haley after playing four years in Arizona. Breaston has already visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns and the wideout said that he could pass a physical with the Steelers and sign a one-year deal.

Breaston could have the chance to sign that deal, but he wants to figure out a long-term solution for his knee issues and that he will sign with a team once that is complete. Breaston could be a great signing for the Steelers, who may lose wideout Mike Wallace to another team in free agency after they decided not to franchise him on Monday.

Breaston was a solid contributor to the team in 2011, making 61 catches for 785 yards and two touchdowns, but he only made seven receptions for 74 yards in 10 games this season while being on the outs with head coach Romeo Crennel. Breaston played four years with the Cardinals and had one 1,000-yard season.

Kansas City went just 2-14 last season and Breaston did not contribute much to the offense. Dwayne Bowe recently signed a five-year deal with the team and Breaston could fill a role as a third option on many teams, including the Steelers.
