NFL Rumors: Vince Young to Work Out at Texas Pro Day, Not Giving Up on NFL Career

Vince Young is technically a free agent, yet the quarterback has not seen a football field in over a year. The troubled quarterback has faced issues both on and off the field in recent years. When he failed to get past training camp with the Buffalo Bills prior to the start of the 2012 season, it was assumed his career as a pro quarterback was finished. But Young has not given up. According to Stewart Madel of Sports Illustrated, Young will work out for NFL scouts during the University of Texas pro day on March 26.

Young has been on campus as he finishes work towards his college degree and has been working out in an effort to return to football. Young was a two-year starter at Texas before declaring for the draft in 2005. He was selected No. 3 overall to the Tennessee Titans and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler in 2006. However, that was the peak of his NFL career.

Young followed up a stellar 2006 with an awful 2007, throwing 17 interceptions and only nine touchdowns as he struggled with discipline issues. He was replaced by Kerry Collins in 2008 and then again in 2009 due to injury. He had a promising start in 2010, but was again injured and replaced. The Titans finally released Young in 2010 following an argument with former head coach Jeff Fisher.

Young attempted to get his career back on track by signing a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. He started three games for the team, throwing for 866 yards and four touchdowns, but was sacked 34 times. Young went to training camp with Bills in 2012, but was released after only completing 48.1 percent of his passes for 276 yards and two interceptions in three preseason games. He has spent the rest of the time as a free agent.

Young has struggled with financial issues and carries a large amount of off-field baggage. However, at 30, he still holds a decent amount of athleticism. He did run for 1,200 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first four seasons in the NFL. Most teams will not consider Young as a potential starter but he could make a decent backup if he is able to impress at the Texas pro day. It is unknown what kind of shape Young is in currently, but he plans to give the NFL one more attempt.
