As Vince Young prepares to resurrect his NFL career, he is first mending the bridges from his old playing days. Young had his fair share of discipline issues during his active playing career, one of which ultimately led to his release from the Tennessee Titans. The former quarterback told the NFL Network that he has sent an apology letter to his former coach Jeff Fisher for his actions while the two worked together.
Young was the starting quarterback for Tennessee while Fisher was there. He was selected by the Titans in 2005 as the No. 3 overall pick. He was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler during his time in Tennessee. He was replaced by Kerry Collins after numerous injuries prevented him from being a consistent player on the field. But then an argument in the locker room with Fisher ended up resulting in his release from the team in 2010.
Young sent a letter to Fisher apologizing for his actions. In the letter he addressed that he was immature and was not listening to his fellow teammates or coaches.
"I definitely wanted to apologize for the things that I did, letting him know about the frustration, a lot of different things that was going on in my life at the time, and want him to know that I really did appreciate him trying to make me become better one of those type of leaders on the team, a successful quarterback," Young said.
After being released from the Titans, Young spent a year with the Philadelphia Eagles before being released. He signed with the Bills in 2012, but was let go prior to the start of the season. He spent the rest of the year as a free agent. Young believes his financial issues and off-field baggage are what resulted in his release from the Bills.
"I really feel like teams don't want a quarterback to be in a position where they're distracted. I was young at the time and I put my trust in a lot of people. I was getting taken advantage of," Young said.
Young recently announced he will participate in University of Texas' pro day in an effort to show NFL scouts he can play football again. The former Texas standout says he just prays he gets an opportunity and that the pro day is worth the try.
"I pray that I'll get an opportunity, but if not, [the pro day workout] was worth the try. I know I can be a big asset to a lot of the teams in the NFL right now. Just to let them know I've been staying on top of my game, just in case that opportunity do come," he said.
