Barcelona midfielder Alex Song could make a sensational return to Arsenal, while Arsene Wenger is closing in on French youth international Yaya Sanogo.
Song was one of the two high-profile players to exit the Emirates last summer, along with Robin Van Persie, and Arsenal have struggled to replace the duo as the results of this season clearly show.
Although Song's effectiveness polarized Arsenal fans, there is little doubt the English Premier League side would have been a better side with him in the squad.
Song moved to Barcelona last summer for £15 million ($22.5 million), and the Cameroon international has found it difficult to get any sort of regular game time with the Spanish league leaders.
The 25-year-old was also voted as the second worst signing of last summer by fans in Spain, with Luka Modric topping the list.
However, there have been signs of Modric showing his class with recent performances for Real Madrid, but Song remains in the shadows at Barca, seemingly scrapping for time on the pitch in inconsequential matches.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for a defensive midfielder in the summer, with Victor Wanyama of Celtic and Etienne Capoue of Toulouse on top of the list.
While Song is not exactly a pure defensive midfielder - his penchant to go forward left Arsenal very open at the back on several occasions last season - a move back could suit both parties quite well, although Wenger will only agree to the move on a reduced transfer fee.
Song is keen on making his return to the Emirates, according to reports in Spain, although Wenger will commit to a transfer only if the 25-year-old commits to performing to his full extent on the training ground - something that eventually led to the Arsenal manager letting go of the midfielder.
Meanwhile, the Gunners could be set to make a move for yet another unknown youngster, with Wenger flying to France to meet up with Sanogo, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.
The 20-year-old is out of contract in the summer, and Auxerre are consigned to losing their striker, who scored seven goals in two games last week.
While getting a young forward with loads of potential on a free transfer might not be a bad idea, Arsenal fans will certainly be hoping for more big names to arrive in the summer.
