Danica Patrick is one of the most popular drivers in the world and on the NASCAR circuit and after crashing into the wall last week at Phoenix, she thought some downtime at a race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dirt track would be a fun way to kill time.
Instead she got hit in the head with a flying rock. According to USA Today, Patrick was attending the race on Thursday night when she was hit in the head with a rock, knocking her down onto the ground. Patrick commented on the incident on Friday, as she prepares for this weekend's arces at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
"I feel like I have a concussion from last night," she said, half-joking. "It's really sore. It hit me straight in the head. Good thing I had a hat on, or I feel like there would have been blood."
Patrick's boyfriend Ricky Stenhouse Jr. field dirt cars and while he was not driving in the event on Thursday, Patrick got the full treatment at the race. The incident came a week after she crashed for real at Phoenix, as she hit the wall after one of her tires gave out and then she was hit again by another car.
Patrick dealt with a sore neck and said she did not have a concussion, although she joked that she did.
"I told them, I said, 'I had a headache on Sunday night and on Monday my neck was sore,' " and they said, 'Well, it sounds like it could have been worse and we're glad you're OK,' " she said.
Patrick and Stenhouse have been the talk on the track this season, as the two are both driving the Sprint Cup series and are also dating. Stenhouse won the past two Nationwide seasons, while Patrick had her best finish after ending the year in the 10th spot in points.
