Manchester United Transfer News: Wayne Rooney Interesting Bayern Munich; Ferguson Plotting Modric Move

Bayern Munich are planning a summer move for Wayne Rooney with Pep Guardiola looking to bring the Manchester United forward to Germany, while Sir Alex Ferguson is considering an audacious swoop for Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric, just a year after his controversial move to the Bernabeu.

Rooney's future has been the cause for much speculation ever since the 27-year-old was left out of the starting lineup in the Champions League game against Real Madrid last week.

Ferguson immediately rubbished reports that United were prepared to sell the former Everton striker, and the England international duly played a big part in United's 2-2 F.A. Cup quarterfinal draw with Chelsea at the weekend, scoring the second goal.

However, despite all the denials, Rooney continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford in the summer, and Bayern are the latest to reportedly show an interest, according to the Times.

Bayern honorary president Franz Beckenbauer said he would be "very, very happy if Wayne Rooney decided to come to Bayern Munich."

Guardiola is a big admirer of Rooney and is keen to bring him to the Allianz Arena and further bolster an already formidable forward line.

The German giants are in rude financial health and can easily afford the £20 million ($30 million) or so transfer fee, while also being able to match the forward's £250,000 a week ($375,000) wages.

Ferguson, however, is unlikely to let Rooney go anytime soon and even admitted he would be prepared to negotiate a new contract with the England international when the time comes.

"There's no issue with his contract, when it has to be renegotiated it will be done," Ferguson said. "We don't want good players to leave."

Meanwhile, Ferguson is also considering bringing Modric back to the English Premier League, a week after the Croatian handed United a body blow by scoring the equalizer for Real Madrid in the Champions League last 16 second leg at Old Trafford.

Modric, while showing signs of finally finding his feet at Real, has not exactly made his presence felt this season, finding himself consigned to the bench on more than a few occasions; he was also voted as the worst signing of the season by La Liga fans.

With the future of Jose Mourinho, as well as Cristiano Ronaldo to a lesser extent, up in the air, Modric could be made available by Real for sale in the summer and United are looking to take advantage.

Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested in signing the 27-year-old, who has told his friends he is keen to return to England, according to the Daily Mirror.

United, though, remain in pole position and Ferguson will gladly welcome the former Spurs man who was one of the brightest players in the Premier League before making his move to La Liga.
