NBA News And Rumors: Utah Jazz Release Veteran Raja Bell

Mar 11, 2013 11:13 AM EDT

The Utah Jazz have brought an end to their unhappy relationship with veteran Raja Bell with his release from the team occurring on Sunday.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Bell had expressed his displeasure with his role and head coach Tyrone Corbin in the past, so the Jazz tried to buy out his contract or trade him while continuing to pay him.

The sides could never reach an agreement on a buyout, so he was waived.

Bell, who will receive the remaining $3.4 million of his contract, could still sign on with another team, but having passed the March 1 deadline for playoff eligibility, he could only play until the last day of the season.

Over four seasons, Bell appeared in 247 games in two stints with the Jazz. Last year, he averaged 6.4 points per game before being benched for the first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs.

With a spot on the roster cleared, Utah Jazz announced it has signed D-League All-Star Game MVP Travis Leslie for a 10-day contract.

Leslie, 23, was drafted No. 47 overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in 2011. After being cut by the Clippers before this season, the shooting guard appeared in 28 games for the Santa Cruz Warriors. He was averaging 16.1 points and 7.4 rebounds.
