Calgary and Los Angeles meet up for the second game of a back-to-back series. It is the final meeting for the two teams. The Kings have won both games against the Flames this season. They have not swept a season series from the Flames since 1999-2000. The Flames have work today after getting blown out in a 6-2 loss to the Kings on Saturday.
The Kings are coming on strong in the second half of the season after a slow start to kick things off. Los Angeles has won 10 of its last 13 games, outscoring opponents 46-28. Rookie Tyler Toffoli, a second-round pick in 2010, could make his NHL debut tonight after being called up from the American Hockey League. His 28 goals were second among all players and the best among rookies. Jeff Carter has been carrying the Kings with 13 goals in his last 13 games. Defenseman Slava Voynov had three assists Saturday which was his second three-assist game in a week. Goaltender Jonathan quick made 17 saves in Saturday's win, but might get the night off.
The Flames are 0-4-1 in their last five road games this season. The California road trip began with a 4-0 loss to Anaheim on Friday. The team has been outscored 10-2 during the consecutive losses. They need a win on Monday in order to bring some momentum into their next homestand. They appeared to be in the game on Saturday for at least a period, but could not hold up physically, letting the Kings cruise to a victory. The Flames are facing some urgency as they sit in last place in the Western Conference standings. Their chances at making the playoffs are almost over as the sit with only 22 points on the season. The Flames will be without forward Curtis Glencross who is still suffering from an upper body injury.
