Arsenal forward Gervinho is hoping for a miracle against Bayern Munich when the English Premier League side look to turn over a 3-1 deficit in the Champions League second leg last 16 encounter at the Allianz Arena.

The Gunners have been given absolutely no chance of progressing into the next round of Europe's elite club competition after surrendering three goals at home to a Bayern side fancied to go all the way this season.

Gervinho, who has not been a part of Arsene Wenger's plans over the last few games, believes his are still capable of advancing to the quarterfinals by creating a big upset.

"We know it is not going to be an easy match," Gervinho was quoted as saying by the club's official website. "It is not easy to come back from 3-1 against Bayern Munich.

"They are one of the best teams in the world with good players all over the pitch, so we are expecting a tough game, but we must remain confident.

"We scored at Emirates Stadium against them, and you just never know, a miracle can happen. If we score an early goal it will put them under pressure.

"We just need to keep positive and give everything we have. We all know anything can happen in football."

The first leg at the Emirates showed the gulf in class between the two sides, but Gervinho insisted the second leg will be a completely different encounter, despite having to play at Bayern's backyard.

"This is a completely new match," he added. "We are only at half time in this tie, and we must go there with belief. The players will go and give absolutely everything. We have to believe in our talents.

"Personally, I still believe we can make it, I know it will be difficult, but I still believe in us. We are going through a tough period at the moment, but there is still a really good spirit with this group of players. Just because we lost the first match at Emirates Stadium, we will not give up."
