Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are two of the most well-known athletes in the world and they also happen to be dating and one way they keep their relationship going has to with the exercise they both need to go through. Wozniacki advanced over Victoria Azarenka the WTA BNP Paribas Open in a walkover after she withdrew and will now play in the semifinals.
According to the Associated Press, Wozniacki spoke about how her boyfriend started working out more after watching her dedication in the gym and now he is even more into it than she is. The two have been dating for quite a while and at one point they were both ranked number one in their respective sports. Wozniacki spoke about how McIlroy's new commitment to working out can get under her skin.
"Even in my offseason, I'm like, 'Can you just rest for a second?' I don't want to see the gym. I don't want to hear about the gym. I don't want to go run. I just want to relax," she said. "He's like, 'No, but let's just go to the gym.' But it's good fun. It's great that we can motivate each other. It's great that we can do so many things together."
McIlroy was forced to answer questions about their relationship after walking off at the Honda Classic, but he said that everything between the two was fine, saying "everything on that front is great." Wozniacki also spoke about working with her boyfriend on his golf, including at the driving range.
"It goes well for a while," she said. "Then once it starts going downhill, I take a little break and watch him hit some balls. I think, 'That looks easy.' I take a water and then I go back at it, and then I need a few pointers from his coach or caddie. It's a frustrating game, but I really enjoy it."
Wozniacki is preparing to play at Indian Wells against No. 1-ranked Victoria Azarenka in a quarterfinal match Thursday at the BNP Paribas Open and has proven to have more endurance than her boyfriend.
McIlroy has not been playing like the number one ranked player in the world, as he missed the cut at Abu Dhabi and also lost in the first round of match play. Things got even worse at the Honda Classic when he walked off the course after eight holes and cited severe tooth pain as the reason for quitting. McIlroy struggled early last weekend at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, but finished strong with an under-par final round.
Tiger Woods is closing in on his ranking and could take over if he wins next weekend at Bay Hill. Woods won his second tournament of the season last week at the WGC-Cadillac Championship and will be one of the favorites to win the Masters in April.
