Denny Hamlin was fired up after he was fined for making comments about the new Gen-6 car's, saying that he would appeal NASCAR's ruling and would not pay the fine.
According to ESPN.com, Hamlin has walked back those sentiments and plans on paying the fine for his "disparaging remarks" about the new cars. He made the statements after the race at Phoenix after fans complained to him about the single file driving at the event.
Hamlin announced on Twitter that he felt the fine was wrong and said that he would allow NASCAR to take it from his race winnings. He discussed the issues with NASCAR and the two sides agreed.
"There was dialogue between Denny and NASCAR during the week and this was the resolution that came about," NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said.
Hamlin made news after the fine and was very angry that he was imposed a punishment.
"After a lot of thought I have decided not to appeal the fine NASCAR has issued," Hamlin tweeted. "Dragging myself, my team and NASCAR through the mud for the next 2 weeks would not be good for anyone. I firmly believe I am in the right on this issue and will stand behind my decision not to pay. I understand NASCAR will do what they feel is necessary based on my decision. Thanks to all of my fans and peers who have supported me in this decision. I look forward to putting it to rest."
NASCAR heads to Bristol this week for the Sprint Cup series with Hamlin looking for a strong performance.
