The Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Rangers meet up for the third of five meetings between the two teams. Pittsburgh won the first two matchups. While the Eastern Conference was expected to be a tight race this year with the resurgence the Rangers showed last season, however the Penguins have appeared to gain a strong hold on the conference, closing in on leaders, Montreal.
The Penguins are a 20-8 and are looking like the team to beat in their Atlantic Division. They are tied with Montreal for the lead in the conference. They are averaging a league-best 3.6 goals per game and are currently on a 7-0 run to start of March. Sidney Crosby is having a career season, he leads the NHL with 47 points. While they have lose Evgenic Malkin to an upper-body injury, they have found ways to fill the holes in the lineup. Their seven-win streak has seen the team knocking in 32 goals in the process. Crosby has had three goals and 13 assists during the stretch.
New York is hoping to avoid a season-worst third consecutive regulation loss after falling 3-1 at Winnipeg on Thursday. The team is struggling with the power play, going 4 for 33 while on a 4-6-1 road trip. The Rangers have lost three of their last four games with only two goals in the past two games. After reaching the Stanley Cup Finals last season, they currently sit in ninth place in the Eastern Conference division and need to figure things out in order to make a final push to the post season. Henrik Lundqvist have helped to try and keep the team in games. He completed 30 saves in the team's loss to Buffalo, but he is 0-3-0 in his past three starts. He has lost four straight to the Penguins.
