The United States completed a comfortable victory over Switzerland in the David Cup World Group first round in Fribourg today. The double match was played on clay selected by Federer to exploit what he thought as an American weakness.

Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka lost 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 to Mardy Fish and Mike Bryan.

Federer has never won the David Cup. He lost to John Isner on Friday. Federer and Wawrinka lost to Fish and Bryan who set a record as winner of the team competition for the 32nd time.

Federer claimed not to be too disappointed. "I thought we actually played pretty well," said Federer. "It was again a high standard from both sides with not much between us."

The victory gave the US a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five, first-round series. "This is probably going down as one of the most memorable (wins)," said Bryan, who played on the 2007 winning team.

The United States team advanced to the quarterfinals and will play Canada or France who are level 1-1 in their tie.
