The Dominicans will have Edison Volquez, who struggled in his last start against Italy in the first game of the second round of the tournament. He walked the first couple of batters and gave way to a three-run home that almost cost the Dominicans the game and their perfect record.
Luckily for the Dominican Republic, they rallied back late in the game to take the lead and eventually win the ball game. They then won their next two games, taking the first seed of Pool 2.
Their opponents, the Netherlands, place Diegomar Markwell on the mound and he has been lights out. He's only given up one run in 10-plus innings pitched. However, he is hittable, but luckily for him and his team, the ball finds players on the field.
The History
Both of these teams have met in the past and the Netherlands owns the Dominican Republic defeating them and, ultimately, eliminating them from the 2009 World Baseball Classic after beating them twice. In the end, the Netherlands were praised while the Dominicans prepared to head home or to their respective MLB team.
On the line is a possible chance to face Puerto Rico in the final game of the 2013 World Baseball Classic. This one is for the final spot in the championship.
Regardless of who wins tonight, there will be a new WBC champion crowned as the Puerto Ricans defeated Japan 3-1.
