MLB The Show '13 is all over the shelves in video game stores and their commercials have been consistently airing during the World Baseball Classic. We here at Sports World Report decide which is the funniest commercial. They say rockstars want to be athletes and athletes want to be rockstars. These commercials prove that some guys can do both.
The first one I came across was Andrew McCutchen's supposed "game-winning grand slam" that gave his Pittsburgh Pirates their first championship in over three decades. Correctly so, had this been a true occurrence, McCutchen would have given the Pirates their first World Series since 1979 when they defeated the Baltimore Orioles in seven games.
McCutchen knows his Pirates have never been in the playoffs since he's been there. The team hasn't even finished a season above .500. So there's just no way this could happen. Let's roll the tape.
McCutchen is such a nice guy though, that he smiles throughout the hole commercial making it hard to believe that he's truly shocked. The serious face at the end saves it though.
Next up, since we're mentioning the World Series in these commercials, it's only right that the champions feature their most popular player and face of the franchise, Buster Posey. The only thing is that, well, Posey never hit a home run in the World Series to win it, so why not reverse the entire idea and say the San Francisco lost instead?
Roll the tape.
So appalled by the lack of knowledge this reporter shows, Posey walks off the set! There's a bit of intrigue from Posey at first, but then he's completely struck by the news: Inning ending double play to lose the World Series? We know that never happened.
Then to top it off, as he walks off, Posey calls the reporter a moron after saying it's only a video game, only to hear the man reply, "You're a video game." Hell of a comeback, don't you think?
I haven't seen this one on air yet, but it didn't disappoint. Roll it.
It's Jose Bautista... hitting the game-winning walk-off home run for the Toronto Blue Jays! But of course, he realizes this is false. He's never been to the playoffs, so he knows immediately knows it's unreal.
As we know from the subtitles and some who understand spanish can tell, Bautista was never complimenting the reporter/artist, but he doesn't know any better and thanks Bautista for his non-existing compliment.
The final one is the best in my eyes, though Matt Kemp's eyes are steal the show in this commercial.
Though it might prompt a "Whoa! No homo!" response from a younger generation, the reporter here sells it completely as he doesn't know how to respond to Kemp's argument that what they had just seen was a video game.
Because of it's humor and Kemp's reactions, this one has to be the best of the commercial. He does a great job staring down the reporter and even the stutter at the beginning of his statement works to his advantage as it eventually leads to complete confusion.
I've had a chance to play MLB '13 and recommend it to everybody. Some of the features changes, but it's still a great game. Also dare anybody to have a home run derby in the Polo Grounds, but try hitting shits to straight away center field.
