The Jacksonville Jaguars have the second overall pick in the draft and although they took Blaine Gabbert in the top 15 two years ago, that may not stop the team from taking a quarterback again in West Virginia starter Geno Smith.
According to NFL.com, Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and owner Shad Khan attended Smith's pro day last week and came away impressed with the quarterback. The team met with him and watched him throw to receivers weeks after scouting him at the NFL combine in Indianapolis. The Jaguars were once linked to Tim Tebow, but they have not shown interest in trading for him.
"I had high expectations, but I came out of there feeling even better," Bradley said Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix, according to the Florida Times-Union.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid also spoke highly of Smith, though it is unlikely that the team will draft a quarterback after trading for Alex Smith in the offseason. The Chiefs will likely take Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher with the number one pick, leaving the Jaguars with Smith if they want him.
Smith was prolific last season at West Virginia, throwing for over 40 touchdowns with just six interceptions and he started the season with 25 TD passes before throwing his first pick. The Mountaineers were streaky, but Smith was excellent throughout the year. Smith is considered the best quarterback prospect in the draft over names like Matt Barkley and EJ Manuel.
The Jaguars were one of the worst offensive teams in the league and could take Smith despite having used their pick on Gabbert just a couple years ago. The Raiders are interested in Smith as well and he could be drafted by the Bills or Arizona Cardinals if he slips past those top teams. The Eagles won't have any interest after bringing back Michael Vick, while the Browns could also surprise and take him.
