LIU Brooklyn comes into this matchup with a 20-13 record. They come into the tournament absolutely red hot. They have won five consecutive games, 9 of 11 and 15-18 overall to conclude the season which led straight into their championship tournament.
Their main scorer in their team is Jamal Olasewere, a senior forward out of Maryland. He's posting career numbers as he's the team leader averaging just less than 19 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He also averages 1.5 steals and almost a block per game.
They lost their one highlight match of the year in a 29-point blowout against the then No. 8 overall Kentucky Wildcats.
Their opponent, James Madison, has also been playing descent basketball winning 11 of their last 15 games and winners of four in a row. Their main man carrying the load is senior forward Rayshawn Goins. He averages 12.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game leading the team in both stats. He's also a 41 percent shooter and 38 percent from three.
Unfortunately for Goins, he's only active for one half after being suspended by head coach Matt Brady. Goins was arrested and charged for disorderly conduct and obstructing justice.
"It's just a blip on the radar screen," coach Matt Brady said of Goins' troubles. "We're not going to let it impact our team, our performance, certainly our mindset."
This is the first time James Madison plays in the NCAA tournament since 1994.
