It's Memphis vs. Michigan State from the Midwest Region playing in the third round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Both the Tigers and Spartans are two of 32 teams remaining in the tournament and one fo them will look to advance to the Sweet 16. Memphis had a bit of a dramatic ending in their second round game against St. Mary's. They won 54-52 and almost miraculously advanced to the third round. For Michigan St., they blue past Valparaiso defeating them 65-54. You can check out the results articles from both games in the related section at the bottom of the page.
In their victory, Memphis struggled, their shooting wasn't horrible sinking 40 percent of their shots, but it was below their average of 47 percent per game. The 54 points score was about 20 points below their average, so Michigan St. better either expect a better offensive performance or, if they want to shut them down, they better play defense.
Joe Jackson led the way in scoring dropping 14 points and dishing seven assists. Adonis Thomas and Tarik Black both added 12 points each while combining for 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.
As for Michigan, they were right on target. Their 65 points was just three below their average and their 45 percent shooting against Valparaiso was right just a slight percent off. Basically, this means the Spartans are playing ball their way.
Forward, Derrick Nix went 10-17 from the floor scoring 23 points and grabbing 15 rebounds and adding two steals to an already impressive stat line. Guard Keith Appling gave him a hand with the scoring dropping 15 points after going 3-5 from three.
