The Tampa Bay Lighting made a big move on Sunday, firing head coach Guy Boucher as the team slid down to last place in the Eastern Conference.
According to ESPN.com, the team fired Boucher ahead of the end of the season as the Lighting are slumping to a finish that will see them miss the playoffs for the second year in a row. The report says that assistant coaches Martin Raymond and Dan Lacroix took the lead for Sunday night's 3-2 loss to the Jets.
The team has been slumping all season and are just 13-18-1 and lost 5-3 to Ottawa after allowing four first period goals. The team previously made the conference finals in his first season, but Boucher could never get the team out of its funk. The team has dealt with a number of injuries, including to Anders Lindback and Vincent Lecavalier.
Boucher was hired with only one year of pro coaching experience and he was never a coach in the NHL. At 38-years-old he was the league's youngest coach.
