These ladies have been streaking in the 2013 Sony Open. Both received a Bye in the first round of the tournament. In the second round, Williams shutdown Flavia Pennetta in consecutive sets 6-1,6-1 to advance to Round 3. For Li, she also breezed by her opponent, Kiki Bertens, 6-3, 6-1.
Ayumi Morita gave Williams a little big of a tougher time as the American used up a little more energy as she defeated her 6-3, 6-3. Li cruised to victory though getting a bit of a challenge against Varvara Lepchenko. Williams had to go the distance against Dominika Cibulkova. Williams eventually won 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 as she made her way to the quarterfinals. Li needed a tiebreaker in her match against Garbine Muguruza, but she won in two sets, 7-6(6), 6-2.
Williams is usually characterized as quiet and to herself as she approaches these matches with extreme focus. However, Li is probably one of the more entertaining stars away from the court and in the press conference booths as she's always finding new ways to people laugh.
Li, who is 30 years old, began playing very good tennis late in her career. She won the 2010 French Open and proceeded to be a finalists at the 2012 and 2009 Australian Opens.
For William, it has been a year marked by ups and downs, but she picked it up last season after Wimbledon. She went on to sweep all Ladies' tennis competitions winning at Wimbledon twice (2012 London Olympics), the U.S. Open, the ATP World Tour.
Williams owns Li winning six of their seven career matchups. Li hasn't defeated Williams since 2008 in Germany.
