Manchester United Transfer News: Robin Van Persie Admits United Could Be His Last Club

Robin Van Persie said he envisages Manchester United to be his last top club, while also hinting he could retire at Old Trafford.

The former Arsenal striker has had a stellar debut season at Old Trafford since making his move last summer, scoring 23 goals to help United top the English Premier League by 15 points.

The 29-year-old has found it a little hard going in the last few games, but believes he is at the best club possible as he looks to keep improving in a new environment, after spending eight years with Arsenal.

"For the coming years, it's Manchester United," he told Voetball International. "And maybe longer. United would be my last top club.

"I have every day at United a new challenge. My development is an ongoing process.

"That gets an extra boost when you are surrounded by new coaches and teammates, all with their own ideas, in a totally new environment."

Van Persie also believes United is the perfect club for a player over 30 to thrive, with the likes of Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs still going strong at Old Trafford.

"You have a number of clubs in Europe where older players can find it good, where they are valued," he added.

"You used to have that at Juventus and AC Milan. Manchester United today is a good example."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson is targeting Chelsea's record point haul of 95. United are currently on 74 points from 29 games, and would require 22 from the last nine to create a new points record in the English Premier League.

"The record is 95 points by Chelsea," Ferguson told reporters.

"If we get to 95 points I would be absolutely delighted. That would be a fantastic season.

"And if we do get to that position, we have probably won the league."

Ferguson also admitted he was surprised at the extent of United's lead at the top.

"With Manchester City coming on the scene and Chelsea and Arsenal and Spurs, you have teams vying for that top-four position," he added.

"I expected it to be really tight. After last year we wanted to make sure we didn't lose it on goal difference -- and that has improved markedly.  But I never thought that we would be 15 points clear at this stage."
