Syracuse is coming off a major win over the No. 1 in the East Region, Indiana Hoosiers. It was truly a shocking victory and a major one as Syracuse attempts to make a run at the NCAA Tournament Championship. Michael Carter-Williams carried the team, scoring 24 points with five rebounds, four steals and a block as the Orange rallied for a 61-55 win over the Hoosiers.
Marquette comes into this matchup with a recent confident booster having defeated the No. 2 Miami Hurricanes by a double-digit margin, 71-61. It was a big victory because Marquette had won their previous two games by just three points combined. With a 10-point victory, they at least relaxed their nerves and didn't have to play high pressure basketball in the closing minutes of this game.
Look for Vander Blue to continue leading his team to victory. He's played a lot of minutes as he's able to remain out of foul trouble. However, they might need him to step up on defense as Syracuse features a powerful offense, but more importantly, Marquette will have to keep up with Syracuse's defense.
So far in the tournament, Syracuse has only allowed 144 points. They held the Hoosiers to an embarrassing 50-point total and in their last game and they rightfully only allowed 34 points against the Pacific Tigers. Marquette better step up their offense and be efficient from the floor, while attempting to contain the Orange's offense if they want to advance to the Final Four.
Both schools met in late February and Marquette won that battle 74-71.
