Jessica Fingers, a 21-year-old woman who was a member of the Columbia track team, was confirmed dead and was identified on Monday after she was found unconscious in the East Campus residence hall by her boyfriend Peter Russell, who she was visiting.
According to the Daily News, Fingers was found Sunday morning facing up and sources said that she died of a possible overdose and was pronounced dead at the scene. She is a resident of Monticello and previously was at the school on a scholarship while being a member of the track team. The report said that she left school last year to recover from a stroke and blood clots and that she would have graduated with the class this year.
The report says her boyfriend was Russell, a tattoo artists that later posted on Facebook: "My life is over... Shes gone so i have nothing to live for.. Bye," "I woke up and the love of my life was dead next to me," and "I wanna die." There was more on Facebook from someone related to Fingers, who wrote to him: "F--k u peter im coming for ur life."
The autopsy still needs to be completes, but police said that she overdosed according to sources and that no foul play sis suspected. She was previously a track star in Monticello and was recruited to the track team at Columbia.
