Detroit Tigers vs. Minnesota Twins Live Blog: Lineups, Scores and Play-by-Play of Opening Day 2013

Apr 01, 2013 03:44 PM EDT

The Detroit Tigers will travel to Target Field for Opening Day as they get ready to face the Twins at 4:10 p.m. ET. Not everybody can watch the games, so check out the MLB Gameday's live scoring updates with play-by-play and lineups of this game. First, let's look at this matchup and possible lineups for this game.

On the mound, baseball's best pitcher, Justin Verlander takes the mound as he gets ready to start his season off in style. The Twins don't boast the most threatening lineup, so look for Verlander, who went 17-6 last season, to come out firing. In 2011 he won the Cy Young and MVP Award after winning the pitching Triple Crown. In 2012 he had a disappointing World Series experience, but he will attempt to get there again in 2013.

He'll be facing the youngster, Vance Worley of the Twins. The 25-year-old right hander will look to make a career with the Twins as he proved he could pitch successfully in the major league level. In 2011, he came in third in Rookie of the year voting after posting an 11-3 record along with a 3.01 ERA in 21 starts. Last season, he struggled a bit going 6-9 with a 4.20 ERA in 23 starts.

The Tigers have the advantage in hitting as they have Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and now, Torii Hunter. Austin Jackson mans the leadoff spot and Victor Martinez will provide protection up and down this lineup.
