The Atlanta Braves play the Philadelphia Phillies in their 2013 Opening Day meeting at 7:10 p.m. ET. The Braves are supposed to have the best outfield in baseball, both offensively and defensively as they acquired B.J. and Justin Upton during the 2013 off season. Together with Jason Heyward, the Braves look capable of hitting any pitcher in the big leagues.
The Phillies post just that, great starting pitching. They still have Cliff Lee, Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels in their rotation and though they were expected to do great things, they haven't accomplished much in their time together. However, their offense is healthy with both Chase Utley and Ryan Howard back in the lineup.
On the mound for the Braves, Tim Hudson, the veteran right-hander that has been pitcher better and better with age. Many thought Kris Medlen would get the ball at the start of the season as he proved to be the ace at the conclusion of 2012, but manager Fredi Gonzalez trusts Hudson to give the Braves what they need on this Opening Day meeting, which could be the last one of Hudson's career as a Brave.
For the Phillies, they newly paid lefty, Hamels, will take the hill and attempt to bring winning back to Philadelphia. Last season, with an 81-81 record, they had to settle for third place as the Braves and Washington Nationals finished in second and first place respectively in the division.
The Braves look like they have the fire power and pitching to take back the reigns of the N.L. East, while the Phillies would love to show them who won the division five years in a row.
