The Vancouver Canucks are coming off of a six game winning streak that ended on Saturday and are rumored to be in trade talks with the Toronto Maple Leafs for star goalie Roberto Luongo as the team travels to HP Pavilion to take on the San Jose Sharks.
The Canucks were shutout 4-0 against Edmonton on Saturday after winning six games in a row and will face off on Monday night against a Sharks team that has won four in a row and is also coming into the game having won both previous matchups this year against Vancouver. Cory Schneider has played excellent throughout the season, although he lost both games against the Sharks, including a 4-1 loss earlier in January and another later on in a shootout. Luongo has played as well as any goalie in the league, going 7-1-2 in his last 10 starts while allowing just over 2.00 goals per game.
The Sharks are coming into the game after a 3-2 shootout win over Phoenix on Saturday will be looking to move up in the Pacific division. San Jose has had issues with scoring all season while ranking 28th in the league while allowing just 2.4 goals against, ranking fifth in the league. The team has done well on the penalty kill, ranking third in the league with 86 percent while ranking 15th in power play percentage.
The Canucks are first in the Northwest division at 19-10-6 with 44 points while ranking 19th in the league in goals against with nearly three per game. The team is ranked eighth in goals against with 2.4 per game while ranking 30th in power play percentage.
