Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers revealed he would spend some money in the summer transfer window, while insisting the future of Andy Carroll would only be decided at the end of the season.
The Reds have had to endure another fairly disappointing season, even if there might have been signs of improvement as the season has progressed.
The Merseyside club are out of the running for a Champions League place, and a berth in the Europa League for next season is also very much in the balance.
Nevertheless, there has been visible improvement over the past few months, especially after the January additions of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho. Rodgers is now determined to add a few more names to the squad before the start of next season.
"We would have liked to bring in a few more players in the summer but we didn't, and the group were admirable with how they coped in that period because we had a lot of games," he told Yahoo.
"We knew we had to bring in reinforcements in January and the board worked superbly to get those players.
"We are hopeful that come the summer we can make more additions that will take us on to the next level. The business we did in January however was excellent and that's a great credit to the club."
Carroll, however, is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, but Rodgers remained coy on whether the forward's future lies at Anfield, while saying he had scouts constantly monitoring the former Newcastle man's progress at West Ham.
"It's nothing to discuss now," he told Fox. "It's something we'll speak about at the end of the season.
"We've monitored it very closely," Rodgers told Fox. "We've had representatives from Liverpool at most of the games.
"It's obviously been a difficult season for Andy because his initial idea was he wanted to go out and play every week, but unfortunately for him he's picked up some injuries since he's been away.
"But he scored two very good goals at the weekend and he'll be looking to finish the season on a high and achieve the objectives he wanted to before he went out."
