The Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals meet up for the second game of the Reds' home opening series. Cincinnati showed an impressive offensive attack against the Nationals, something they hope to continue throughout the weekend.
Todd Frazier and Zack Cozart each knocked out a pair of home runs in Friday night's 15-0 shutout win. The team totaled six home runs. They looked equally impressive in their previous series against the Los Angeles Angels, totaling 11 runs on 16 hits, winning two of three to start the season. The Reds offense will only get better this season. Both Joey Votto and Jay Bruce have yet to get a home run this season, when they get going, the Reds may look unstoppable. Votto has gone 1 for 10 to start the season, while Bruce is 3-for-18. Mike Leake gets the start for the Reds. He pitched two complete games in 2012, posting a 4.58 ERA over 30 games.
In the Nationals opening series against the Miami Marlins, the team allowed just one run on 15 hits before giving up 15 runs Friday night. Ross Detwiler gets the start and will try and pick up the pieces that fell apart. He has recorded a 3.13 ERA in four starts against the Reds. Last season in 27 starts, Detwiler had a 3.40 ERA, going 10-8 on the season. The shut out was one of the most lopsided games the Nationals have been apart of and the team will look to rebound.
