The New York Jets have been working to trade backup Tim Tebow this offseason while shopping him around the league, but thus far there have been no emerged and if a deal is going to happen, it likely will be later in April when the draft happens, but one team that could be in the mix according to a report is the Seattle Seahawks.
The report said that Tebow's name was mentioned in options for the Seahawks backup position and although the team said they will not pursue a trade, the fit could be perfect for Pete Carroll and Seattle. There are other possible spots for Tebow as well and according to ESPN.com, some options for Tebow could be in a backup role with another team, such as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chicago Bears, who lost Jason Campbell in free agency to the Cleveland Browns. The quarterback carousel has turned in a big way over the past few weeks, with Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kevin Kolb, Matt Flynn and Carson Palmer all changing teams.
Chase Daniel left New Orleans for the Kansas City Chiefs, while Colt McCoy was traded from the Browns to the San Francisco 49ers last week. Tebow could have been a fit with the 49ers behind Colin Kaepernick as well as on the Browns, but after those moves a chance of a deal is extremely unlikely. The Jets got themselves into a bad situation by trading for Tebow in the first place and barely used him this season, as he gained 102 yards on the ground and 39 yards through the air on six completions.
An unlikely but very interesting option could be with the Seattle Seahawks, as they now need a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson after trading Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders, who then traded their own quarterback in Carson Palmer to the Arizona Cardinals, effectively taking out another destination for Tebow. Wilson beat out Flynn for the starting job last year after impressing Pete Carroll in training camp and led the team to the playoffs with an 11-5 record. According to the Seattle Times, his name was one that was brought up in a group that includes Tyler Thigpen and Seneca Wallace.
After acquiring Percy Harvin from the Vikings, Carroll could find some ways to use the former college teammates and if Russell Wilson went down, Tebow could step in for him. Despite the fact that the Jets didn't give him much of a chance to play this year, he did go 8-6 as a starter and led a team to a division title and a playoff win, something Kevin Kolb, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Colt McCoy and Matt Flynn have never done.
Tebow is an interesting figure in football because who he is follows him wherever he goes. Many players have had years to develop and work out their quarterback skills before breaking through, while Tebow was never fully given a chance. Mark Sanchez has been awful for two years and has continued to keep his job, while Tebow has never had the chance to play and improve in New York.
Despite the fact that many in the NFL feel he cannot play quarterback, Tebow has won at every level he has played and proved he could bring a team to the postseason. He may end up on the Jets roster for next season, but if not he can help bring a new element to any offense.
