New York Giants Rumors: Brandon Jacobs Returning? Team Considers Re-Signing Running Back, Ahmad Bradshaw Option

The New York Giants cut ties with two running backs that helped them win a Super Bowl just over a year ago. Ahmad Bradshaw was released into the free agent market this season, while Brandon Jacobs was released prior to the 2012 season. Now, it seems both running backs are fighting at a chance to get re-signed by the team, but only one will succeed. The New York Posts reports that the Giants are keeping the door wide open for Jacobs to return after a short stint in San Francisco.

Jacobs relationship with the Giants has not exactly been a smooth one. The team drafted him in 2005 and he quickly proved to be a productive and bruising running back for the team. In his first seven seasons with the team, he rushed for 4,849 yards. In 2008 he rushed for a career-high 1,089 yards and 15 touchdowns. However, knee injuries and outspokenness have hampered his relationship with New York. The team released him at the end of the 2011 season and he was immediately signed by the 49ers where he promptly wasted a year, appearing in just two games and rushing for seven yards on five carries.

Jacobs took to Instagram last December to express his unhappiness with the 49ers, ultimately leading to a three-game suspension and then release from the team. Now, Jacobs is taking to social media again, this time to express how much he would like to be back in New York next season.

The Giants are reportedly keeping the door open and considering the option of bringing back Jacobs. The signing would make sense. The team released Ahmad Bradshaw to free agency at the end of the season. That leaves the running game to David Wilson and Andre Brown. While Jacobs may no longer be an every-down player, splitting the ground game with those two could be exactly what he needs.

The Giants are in no rush to get a signing done right away. There is almost no market for a running back approaching 31. While Bradshaw is still garnering attention from other teams, no one is paying attention to Jacobs. The Giants could take care of their needs in the draft and then address the Jacobs' topic before training camps begin.
