The Seattle Seahawks are working to try and find a fitting backup quarterback for starter Russell Wilson. The team traded away Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders and is considering several suitors to fill the position. The latest on the list is Brady Quinn became a free agent after a recent stint with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Seahawks held a try out for the backup position on Monday. Matt Leinart, Tyler Thigpen, Seneca Wallace and Quinn were all present at the workout, each getting their opportunity to impress the team. It was rumors that Thigpen was the all-around favorite for the job. He possesses a similar skill set to Wilson and would not require the offense to change dramatically is an injury were to happen. However, Quinn performed well, gaining as edge on the other quarterbacks. He is a typical pocket passer and has to see much time in a read-option offense which is what Wilson operates under.
Quinn was originally drafted 22nd overall in the 2007 NFL Draft, but never panned out to be the starting quarterback the team had hoped for. He spent three years with the Browns throwing 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 14 games as a starter. He was traded to the Denver Broncos in 2010, but never saw any playing time as the team went with Tim Tebow instead.
Brady last saw the field with the Chiefs, signing with the team prior to the 2012 season. He took over the starting position after Matt Cassel suffered an injury. He threw for two touchdowns and eight interceptions in 10 games. Kansas City acquired Alex Smith in the offseason, leaving Quinn without a job.
The Seahawks seem set on signing a backup quarterback throw free agency and not getting one in the NFL draft. They were reportedly interested in Tim Tebow, however team officials quickly squashed that rumor. A signing will happen rather quickly and if Brady is the best candidate for the job, he will get an offer sometime this week.
