Tim Tebow Jets Release Coming As Seattle Trade Off With Brady Quinn Seahawks Deal, Rumors Have Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots Interested?

Tim Tebow has been one of the most talked about players in the NFL this offseason and while the New York Jets have tried to shop him around the league, so far there haven't been any takers, but one intriguing option has emerged, as the Seattle Seahawks could be a destination for the quarterback, as the team needs a backup after trading Matt Flynn.

According to the Seattle Times, the team has been looking for a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson and there are a number of options to look at, including in former Seahawk Seneca Wallace, Tyler Thigpen, Matt Leinart as well as Brady Quinn. (UPDATE the team brought in Brady Quinn). The report also says that the team looked into the possibility of acquiring Tim Tebow, although the team is unlikely to do so. The Seahawks traded Flynn to the Raiders last week and he now will be the likely starter.

Flynn originally signed a three-year contract with the team before last season, but Wilson beat him out in training camp and Pete Carroll had no problems going with the rookie and he took the team all the way to the playoffs. Flynn has limited experience as a starter and although he has thrown for 480 yards and six touchdowns in one win while with the Packers, Oakland is still taking a risk.

For as much as he seems like a crazier option, Tebow is more experienced than Flynn after going 8-6 as a starter and he has done something many of the teams backup options haven't by taking a team to a playoff win and a division title, which Tebow did in Denver. While many are skeptical of his skills, Carroll could find good ways to use him and since Wilson is the definitive starter, there would be no speculation about Tebow taking over.

The Seattle media would not be as crazy as in New York and Tebow would be a better option than Thigpen or Quinn, who have never been able to prove that they can start consistently in the NFL. Tebow could fit into the offense behind Wilson and he is much cheaper than Flynn was as a backup anyway. Leinart was formerly with Carroll at USC and that could help him, but he also never was a consistent solid player in the NFL after being drafted by the Cardinals.

Tebow seems like a crazy option for the Seahawks, but he could add an interesting facet to their offense and he could be a very good stand in for Wilson when the team needs it. While he was barely used in New York, he at least made the most of it when he was on the field, rushing for over 100 yards and completing six of eight passes. He is a hard worker and will do anything the team asks of him and the Seahawks could benefit from his addition to the roster.

A number of teams made quarterback changes with players who have performed worse than Tebow, including with Kevin Kolb in Buffalo, Ryan Fitzpatrick in Tennessee as well as Colt McCoy in San Francisco and Flynn in Oakland. Carson Palmer is now in Arizona, which is another spot he could have went, but not his options are starting to thin out and the Seahawks appear to be the best fit, along with the New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a backup.
