As of now, Darrelle Revis is still a New York Jet and with that, he must still abide by the rules of the New York Jets. Will he remain a Jet? The remains to be seen. But for now, Revis reported to New York and will see team doctors to evaluate his health after he had surgery to repair a torn ACL. While Revis could likely be traded any day now prior to the upcoming NFL draft, he is expected to be present at offseason workouts after showing progress in his overall health.
Revis' 2012 season ended after just two games when he tore his ACL and had to have season-ending surgery. His rehab process has been well-documented by the NFL Network and in their latest episode of his comeback, Revis was seen running on the treadmill and taking part in agility drills. This has been the most physical activity anyone has seen from Revis since the initial injury. He had been doing most of his rehabbing in Arizona with doctors not associated with the Jets. Now he is just waiting to get the all-clear from the Jets' doctors before resuming running without any restrictions.
However, general manager John Idzik is making sure that the cornerback follows all team rules while still apart of the Jets. He told Revis that if he wanted to earn his $3 million in roster bonuses, he would have to report Monday to offseason workouts. Revis originally had asked to stay out in Arizona for two more weeks in order to finish rehab. All of this is happening as trade talks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue, something Revis is painfully aware of.
"There's been a lot of talk. We'' see what happens-if I'm there or if I'm not. But that's the next step. That's the next phase for me in my career, these next couple of weeks," Revis said.
Tampa Bay is the only suitor for Revis. The team is looking to make a deal with the Jets prior to draft day. They have said they are willing to part with their first-round pick in order to get the All-Star cornerback, but will not give up anything else in the draft. The two sides have been in discussion for weeks now, but nothing formal has yet to come of it.
Despite all of the trade talks, Revis said he is just ready to get back on the field and play.
"My comfort zone is to go out there and just play ball. I've played six years. It went so fast. I'm just grateful. I just thank God I got a second chance."
