Matt Kemp is one of the best players in major league baseball and he is also one that looks out for his teammates, as he confronted Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin in the parking lot and stadium area after the game on Thursday night that saw the outfielder charge the mound and break Zack Greinke's collarbone.
Quentin charged the mound in the sixth after being hit by Greinke and the two collided and in the collision the pitcher broke his collarbone and now will miss two months. The pitcher likely wasn't trying to hit him as the game was 2-1 in the sixth, but after a high throw at Matt Kemp earlier and a past history between the two, Quentin charged the mound. The Cy Young winner met him a few steps forward and then collided into his chest.
After the game he said that he did not hit him on purpose, which is one reason why Kemp confronted Quentin afterwards, as he felt the charge was unnecessary in the second week of the season. Manager Don Mattingly was angry and after the game Kemp and Quentin needed to be separated by police officers in the back area of the stadium.
Kemp, Quentin and Jerry Hairston Jr. were ejected from the game after the brawl and Padres pitcher Clayton Richard and police had to step in after the game to keep them apart.
