The Masters is continuing in earnest on Friday and a number of players are off to solid rounds and while no one has yet to pull away, the cut should remain around four over and that could leave record-setting 14-year-old Tianlang Guan in play over the weekend.
Guan shot a three over 75 in his second round on Friday after shooting a one over on Thursday and currently the cut is at four over, leaving him still in play. Guan was solid for most of the day but ran into some trouble at the end and was assessed a penalty on the 17th hole for slow play and ended with a 75. As the youngest player in a major in 148 years, Guan has had a ton of attention and a penalty for slow play hasn't been issued since 1995, according to ESPN.
After making a par at 17 he did not sign his second-round card and Ben Crenshaw said that he was "sick for him" over the penalty. The reports says that European Tour rules official John Paramour was part of the decision for the penalty and it said that he was previously warned twice on the 12th and 16th holed. Matteo Manassero had the card for Guan and was forced to write a five despite the par four.
"I think it's the biggest thing he needs to be careful about, because I think he's ready. When the caddie pulls the club for him, I think he's ready," Manassero said. "But he just sometimes ... takes a little too long, he just asks questions [of his caddie] that I think he knows [the answers to], as well, but just to be sure, just to be clear in his mind.
Tiger Woods is playing even, while Marc Leishman is back in the lead over Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler, while Dustin Johnson has slipped since being seven under and is now one under through his round.
