MLB Fantasy Baseball 2013: Red Hot Hitters at Every Position on the Free Agent Market in Your League

Apr 15, 2013 02:06 PM EDT

There are always player who randomly get hot at different points during the season and they can change your MLB Fantasy Baseball team for the better, short term. Don't hold on to that guy scuffling (unless he's a star of course) and check out these top performing players who might be free agents in your fantasy baseball league. Here are their numbers in the past seven days.

Here's a guy present in 99% of ESPN and 98% available in Yahoo! Baseball Fantasy Leagues:
Catcher: Nick Hundley
In the past week, Hundley, who plays with the San Diego Padres, hit .409, 1 HR, 2 RBI racking up 16 total bases.

In first base you have a number of guys. First of all, the more available player who was red hot in the past week:

First Baseman: Chris Carter, Houston Astros
Last week, Carter hit all of his four home runs, driving in seven RBI while posting a .440 average and a .500 on-base percentage. It was about time Carter came through for his Astros as he's slotted as one of the guys they depend on for power. He is owned in only 35% of Yahoo! teams and 32% in ESPN.

Yonder Alonso, San Diego Padres
This first baseman handled his in the past week. He hit .391 with a .423 OBP while hitting a home run and driving in five RBI. He's available in 89% of Yahoo! leagues and 91% of ESPN leagues.

Second Baseman: Jeff Keppinger, Chicago White Sox
There is really one guy who might be available at 2B that caught fire this week and still available in over 65% of leagues on ESPN and 83% in Yahoo! leagues. Before we get you the numbers, the beauty about having Keppinger, though he's rarely going to hit for power is that he's a super utility player. He can play the entire infield, allowing you to be flexible and if any of your infielders are out, then he's a solid pickup.

Keppinger hit: .346 4 R, 1 RBI

Shortstop: Brandon Crawford, San Francisco Giants
His numbers were the more consistent out of available shortstops in ESPN and Yahoo! fantasy baseball leagues. This past week, Crawford got a hit and is currently on an eight-game hitting streak. He hit .364 with 5 runs, 1 HR, 5 RBI and produced a .517 OBP.

Third Baseman: Chris Johnson, Atlanta Braves
He brought the Braves closer in their victory against the Washington Nationals, helping them get on the board before mounting a rally on Friday. He can also play first base, again providing versatility. This past week he hit .481 with 4 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI. He's available in 90% of ESPN and 84% of Yahoo! leagues.

Outfielders: Seth Smith Oakland A's, Denard Span Washington Nationals, David DeJesus Chicago Cubs

Smith: Available in 96% of ESPN and Yahoo! Leagues, Smith went insane this past week in the five games he played, batting .563 with 2 R, 3 RBI and an OBP of .632.

Span: If you want stolen bases, then this is your guy. He batted .348 in the past seven days, with 6 R, 2 RBI and 2 SB.

DeJesus: Just when he looked like he was dying off, DeJesus resurrected and hit .381 scoring 5 runs, with 1 HR and 3 RBI. He is available in 99% of the leagues in ESPN and 98% in Yahoo!

There you have it, the best hitters in the past week by positions. Of course, these guys might cool off at any moment and guys like Smith have to take advantage of when given a chance since they usually platoon and don't get starts consistently.
