The Boston Marathon explosion that occurred on Monday located near the finish line killed at least three people, according to police, leaving many more injured and a number of total victims have varied by report, with at least 124 people injured, while others lost limbs.
According to ESPN.com, eight area hospitals were treating injured victims from the explosion, which occurred around two hours after the winners of the races were declared. Police found other explosive devices nearby and there also was another explosion and a fire at JFK Library, which initially was reported as not connected to the original explosions. The reaction around the social media world was large and former New England Patriots guard Joe Andruzzi found himself in the middle of things while helping people following the explosion.
According to Pro Football Talk, Andruzzi organizes a team of runners for each Boston Marathon and his organization works to raise money and awareness for cancer patients and pediatric brain cancer research. The report also said that Andruzzi has three brothers that are firefighters that responded to the 9/11 attacks, so it may be something that is in Andruzzi's nature to help at moments like what happened Monday. The photo online showed him carrying a woman down the street after being injured in the bombing attack at the marathon.
Andruzzi is a well-known figure in Boston and his charity organization for cancer supported a number of runners in the race, according to Deadspin.com, and following the explosion after his Twitter was not used for a while, many hoped that all was okay. Later on Andruzzi confirmed that he was fine on Twitter and a picture of him helping a victim could be seen on a gallery on CNN, according to Deadspin. Andruzzi later wrote on Twitter: "Our thoughts & prayers are with all the victims and their families impacted at today's Boston Marathon. TY to all our emergency personnel."
President Obama responded to the attacks and officials were still looking to determine a cause for the attack while also looking for a suspect. The attacks came on Patriots day in Boston that saw the Red Sox and Rays play at Fenway Park prior to the finish of the race and the explosion.
