Okay everybody, take out your Neil Diamond tapes and begin rehearsing. Well, specifically, if you're in New York and attending the Yankees vs. Arizona Diamondbacks. The Yankees have agreed to sing the Red Sox's traditional "Sweet Caroline" during the third inning of their game tonight.
The action comes after the tragedy that struck Boston Monday afternoon during their 117th annual Marathon where three people lost their lives and over 100 were left injured. The action is heightened and given extra attention because these two clubs share a nasty past. However, tonight, all of that will be forgotten, similar to how the Red Sox played Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," the song that rings out of Yankee Stadium whether they win or lose, after the events of 9/11.
Along with the singing of "Sweet Caroline," the Yankees will also hold a moment of silence for those who passed away and were affected by the occurrences from Monday afternoon. All of this will happen in the third inning of their game.
Speaking of 9/11 earlier, coincidentally, the Yankees face the Diamondbacks, the team that beat them in 2001 following one of the most emotionally charged World Series ever played in baseball. The Yankees roared back to take a 3-2 lead in the series, only to see the Diamondbacks erase all of that and eventually defeat Mariano Rivera in Game 7 of that series.
Game time is at 7 p.m. ET as the action comes to you straight from New York.
If you really can't believe this is happening, just take a look at the tweet and Twitter interactions by the Red Sox and Yankees organizations.
